Today Together

Today was a big day with our church family.  The main purpose of the event was for us to raise funds for missions and aid work around the world. We've been talking about it for months and we've done this every year for the past 9 years.  Some of the nuts and bolts of today are that we:
  1. Raised over $655,000 dollars for lots of different projects and people.
  2. We had a large combined worship service that probably had 1800-2000 people in attendance and
  3. During the worship service most or all of the kids in the church played a part with singing and the kids wore smocks that were hand made.  They sang an african(?) song that someone had taught them at some point over the past weeks and months.
  4. We fed over 1700 people lunch afterwards.
  5. Tonight we had another worship service and then ice cream was served to all.

It is a real joy to see lots of people working together on a good cause and then seeing the results unfold before our eyes.  There is just no end to what could and can be done to help others, if we just work together.

Washington and the UN are a mess and seem to waste so much.  But families, churches and any good community of people can really do great things when they put their mind to it and their heart in it and they are aligned with what God wants done.

Thanks to all those who made today possible.  Thanks to all of you anywhere who do similar wherever you are.

  1. My favorite part of this post is..."There is no end to what could and can be done to help others, if we just work together." This spring I was in a Wed. night class called "The Hole in the Gospel." The point they made over and over is that while no one can fix all the problems with poverty in the world, we can all do SOMETHING. Today I met with a rep from the Regional Food Bank and some people at Putnam City West HS who have started a food pantry. It's unthinkable that kids are coming to school hungry. If we each do our part, we CAN make a difference. "Find where God is working and join Him in His work" is what I learned from another Bible study. If you want to do your part to help in some way, the Regional Food Bank is a great place to start. And if you want to be inspired, call up the football coach/AD at PC West. Thanks, Mark, for the reminder of what we can accomplish when we all work together.

  2. Thanks Robin and Lori for stopping by and thanks Lori for the thoughts about the food bank.
